5 Facts about Seahorses

There are more than 40 known species of seahorses. Seahorses swim in pairs with their tails linked together. They swim upright and avoid predators by mimicking the colour of the underwater plants. Seahorses propel themselves by using a small fin on their back that flutters up to 35 times per second.  They have no teeth and no stomach. Food passes through their digestive systems so quickly that they must eat almost constantly to stay alive.

There are about 40 known species of seahorses.

Exceptional Achievement

At Summerwood Primary School all 700 learners are ... learners. However; our learners are as diverse as the 40 known species of seahorses. Nevertheless; they are one family of Summerwood siblings and should be proud of being recognized as such. This should manifest visibly in how they all wear their Summerwood uniform with pride.
